H2H Project

INTRODUCING JENNI – One of our Lifeguides

Hi, my name is Jenni Pringle and I volunteer as a life guide for the local charity H2H. I am 24 years old and have been with H2H since 2010. My role is to meet up with a young person who has been affected by parental divorce or separation. I have personally experienced parental separation and the consequences attached. Due to my personal experience I understand the difficult emotions and thoughts to deal with when going through family break up. With the help of my own experiences and the Heart to Heart tool kit, I meet up with the young person for 1 hour, every week for six weeks. Meetings take place in public, mostly in cafes or eating places and are informal. Discussions can often be challenging for the young person as they are required to talk about personal circumstances.

However, all conversations are confidential and I am not there to judge, only to provide a listening ear and to show the young person how to cope well with a difficult time in their life. The meetings and toolkit are designed to increase the confidence in the young person and to provide a safe and relaxed space to deal with parental divorce/separation.

If you would like to volunteer as a Lifeguide (18 to 22/23year old) or if you would like to refer a young person (11 to 18years) please contact Jackie on 07521-056581 or email on urbanlife@hearttoheart.org.uk.

INTRODUCING JACKIE COWAN -  URBAN LIFEGUIDE CO-ORDINATOR

Hi my name is Jackie Cowan and I am the Urban Lifeguide     Co-ordinator for Heart to Heart,  I am delighted to be  working for Heart to Heart and to  be based here in St Marks and Raploch.

Heart to Heart as an organisation has been in existence since 2003 up until now they have mainly worked with adults who have been affected by divorce or separation in the callander area. It is recognised that the adults are not the only people who are affected by family breakdown.

The project I am working on is to work with 11 to 18 year olds in Raploch and Cornton areas of Stirling.  The young people must have been affected by divorce or separation. We will do this by recruiting Lifeguides (who are slightly older but who have also been affected by divorce or separation) and by doing small group work based on an educational programme called seasons for growth, the Lifeguides will take the young people through a 6 week toolkit, which will give both the Lifeguides and the young people new tools to increase their confidence and effective citizenship.

If you would like to volunteer as a Lifeguide (18 to 22/23year old) or if you would like to refer a young person (11 to 18years) please contact Jackie on 07521-056581 or email on urbanlife@hearttoheart.org.uk
